FAQ

What is Innovate Delhi?
A three-week intensive academy for aspiring entrepreneurs funded by the SEED Institute at Stanford GSB and Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology - Delhi. Innovate Delhi is part business school and part startup incubator. Participants will learn the latest startup frameworks from entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and faculty from leading universities. We also believe the best way to learn is to do -- participants will work collaboratively to develop a startup idea and have the chance to win funding on Pitch Day. Find out more about the program on our www.innovatedelhi.com/learnmore page.

When and where will it be held?
Innovate Delhi will be held from June 1-22, 2014 at the campus of IIIT-D in the Okhla neighborhood of New Delhi. Housing will be available on campus. The programs runs for the full work day, Monday through Saturday. The final pitch day takes place on Sunday June 22nd, 2014.

Who should apply?
We look for men and women who are smart, creative, and passionate about changing people’s lives by creating innovative web-centric products and services. There are are only three formal criteria for applying. You should be: 1) fluent in written and spoken English, 2) be 18 years or older, and 3) own a laptop that can run Google Chrome and connect to wi-fi. However if you want to learn how to build a firm that can license a new chemical process that you invented during your PhD program, then Innovate Delhi may not be the program for you (we are not patent experts). We aim to help individuals come up with new ideas and build new teams, so if you already have an experienced team or an idea that has significant traction Innovate Delhi may not be the best fit. If you just completed an MBA and are looking for an idea to grow or are a computer science student searching for a team and a problem, then Innovate Delhi is definitely for you. If you want to meet young aspiring entrepreneurs and grow your network before heading home to build a startup with a colleague of friend, then Innovate Delhi is for you. This year, Innovate Delhi will be accepting 200 applicants. Given the quantity of strong applications Innovate Delhi has received we are no longer accepting new applicants for the June 2014 class.

When should I apply?
Second-round applications are accepted on a rolling basis until May 1st, 2014. Apply at www.innovatedelhi.com/apply.

How are you using technology? What data will you collect?
Innovate Delhi will give every student an @innovatedelhi.com GoogleApps account for the duration of the program. This account, coupled with custom built software, will allow students to collaborate, share, and work together. We will also use state of the art video and audio recording technology, along with dynamic web surveys, to help students track their progress. The data generated during Innovate Delhi will dramatically improve our understanding of how innovation occurs and what practices best help new ventures. Finally, this data will allow us to give Innovate Delhi students customized feedback on how to best tackle their future entrepreneurial journeys.

How much does it cost?
The online application is free and with generous funding from the SEED Institute at Stanford GSB and IIIT-D the only mandatory cost is a small materials and technology charge totaling Rs. 3,000. For students staying on campus, there will be a Rs 11,000 room and board fee.

Will I get a degree or certificate from IIIT-Delhi or Stanford?
The co-founders of Innovate Delhi -- Sharique Hasan, Rem Koning, and Ponnurangam Kumaraguru -- will provide a certificate of participation in the 2014 Innovate Delhi class at the conclusion of the academy. While Stanford and IIIT-Delhi have been generous in funding Innovate Delhi, the academy is not a program of either university.
